Food Allergy and Special Diet Management Policy

 

At University of The Bahamas, we are committed to providing a safe and inclusive dining experience for all students, including those with food allergies or special dietary needs. This policy outlines our approach to managing food allergies and accommodating special diets.

  1. Communication and Documentation:

Students are encouraged to inform the university about their dietary restrictions or allergies during the admissions process or as soon as they become aware of their special dietary needs.

Medical documentation may be required to verify food allergies or dietary restrictions.

  1. Menu and Ingredient Transparency:

All menus will include detailed information about ingredients, allergen information, and nutritional content.

Online platforms and menu labeling will be used to provide easy access to this information.

  1. Allergen Identification:

Menus and food items will be clearly labeled to indicate common allergens, including peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, eggs, gluten, etc.

  1. Meal Customization:

Students with special dietary needs will have the option to request customized meals to meet their specific requirements, such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, etc.

  1. Cross-Contamination Prevention:

Dedicated preparation spaces, utensils, and equipment will be provided for allergy-safe meals.

Staff will receive training on proper procedures to minimize the risk of cross-contamination.

Dining services staff will receive training on food allergies, cross-contamination prevention, and emergency response procedures.
